When respected journalist Sean Taylor was quizzed on the rumour via twitter, he confirmed that Forest had made an enquiry but dismissed talk that a bid had been made.
Forest manager Billy Davies has confirmed that the club does have money to spend in January, although a move of this magnitude is uncertain. Newcastle United and West Ham United are also said to be interested in the player.
The Black Cats have been linked to a number of Brighton's key players early in the transfer window, which was to be expected when Gus Poyet landed the Sunderland job in October. Brighton will be keen not to lose any more first team players in January, and will now be actively seeking a replacement for their departing instrumental midfielder.
Dons manager Karl Robinson admitted talking to Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers over the England U17 international and praised his development.
''I know Brendan quite well and we speak about different players all the time.
''There may be another reason why he was at the game today, but you've seen Dele and he's special. Yeah he did some silly things but he's 17 years of age. He did bits of magic too.
''You don't see many 17-year-olds playing in an FA Cup third round against a very good wigan side and not look out of place.
''I'm proud of his development''
Liverpool are a club that is usually linked with every up and coming star from the Football League, having had relative success landing former Wycombe Wanderers starlet Jordan Ibe. MK Dons like any other club will be wanting to keep their top young talent but if the price is right then Liverpool could act fast.
4) The Daily Mail have reported that Queens Park Rangers are keen on landing Inter Milan striker Ishak Belfodil on loan for the rest of the season, despite interest from Newcastle United. The 21-year-old signed for Internazionale on a five year deal for a transfer fee around €8m in the summer, but has struggled to hold down a first team slot, making only 8 appearances.
5) The Mirror have reported that Wigan Athletic are ready to use Hull City target Jean Beausejour as bait to land on loan Nottingham Forest centre back Jack Hobbs. This rumour came out hours after Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies insisted that Jack Hobbs will be going nowhere in January and the defender can only be recalled in emergencies. But as we know from past experiences, the term 'emergency' has a very loose meaning when it comes to Football League transfer policy.
