Report: Lamela agent in Italy to discuss Inter loan

Erik Lamela

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the agent of Tottenham man Erik Lamela has touched down in Rome and will meet with Inter officials.

Tottenham midfielder Erik Lamela has struggled to settle in London and reports that he could return to Italy are gathering momentum.

The Argentine starlet made a name for himself at Roma last season before joining Tottenham in the summer for £30m.

But Lamela hasn't exactly set the Premier League alight and there have been suggestions that the lifestyle in England doesn't suit the 21-year-old, prompting speculation that he could head back to Italy as soon as this winter.

Inter are known to be keeping an eye on Lamela but it is widely believed that a deal will be tough to broker as the Nerazzurri don't have access to the necessary funds without selling first.

It seems that the answer could lie in a loan switch that would allow Lamela to rediscover his form in Serie A and remove his salary from Spurs' wage bill.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lamela's agent, Paolo Sabbag, has flown to Rome and will spend a few days in Italy where he will discuss his client's future with Inter officials.

The paper stresses that the discussions are at an early stage and that Lamela hasn't yet clarified his position.

While Lamela will be reluctant to admit that White Hart Lane isn't working out for him, his priority must be securing a spot in Argentina's World Cup squad and he will need a change in fortunes to achieve that.
