Manchester United need a world-class midfielder. And that is exactly what Juventus’s Arturo Vidal is quickly becoming. So it is no surprise David Moyes’ side has been linked with a January bid.
However, despite reports last week claiming the English champions were lining up a lucrative offer for the 26-year-old Chilean, Italian website Tuttomercatoweb has published a story claiming Vidal has another ambition on his mind.
Having recently signed a new deal at the Serie A club, his performances are now suggestive of a player set for the very top of the game. And the story claims his ‘mission’ is now to win the Ballon d’Or.
“David Moyes would be willing to pay an extortionate price just to have him on English soil,” the report claims. “But the will of the warrior of Juventus is to remain at the court of (Antonio) Conte.”
The latest story comes after Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly attempted to broker a move for Vidal in his new role as a director of United.
That claim came from Italian website Tuttosport, but it appears that neither Ferguson nor Moyes could convince the player to move to Old Trafford.
So it is back to the drawing board, with just one thing clear – this United side needs changing, whether that be by writing off this season and blooding the next generation, or bringing in new recruits both swiftly and wisely…if such a thing is possible in January.
