Manchester City latest: Aguero boost and defender interest

Man City Etihad

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

As reported earlier today, Manchester City should have Sergio Aguero fit for first-team action in time for the matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Speaking to Sky Sports, City boss Manuel Pellegrini said, “Sergio is working normally but I think he has at least one or two weeks more to go, probably two.”

That would see him back in contention for two vital matches as the Blues attempt to reclaim the Premier League title.

In other news, Fernandinho has targeted a starring role in the upcoming World Cup.

The Brazilian was tipped by many to be the bargain of the summer and he has now well and truly found his feet at the Etihad.

In quotes published in the Daily Star, the midfielder said, “Luiz Felipe Scolari has been around watching players.

He has been in Portugal, in Italy. I am sure he will be here watching me and other players and that is no problem. I will keep trying to play well here.”

Given his recent performances, that is unlikely to be a problem either.

One current teammate who could soon be on the move is Joleon Lescott, and the Independent reports that West Ham United are interested in the England defender.

The Hammers manager Sam Allardyce had this to say about the former Everton man:

I don’t know if Joleon is available, but if it’s possible I would like to get him.”

With the players ahead of him in the Etihad pecking-order, a move has been toured for some time. And if he still has the ambition to make England’s World Cup squad, a move either permanently or on loan is surely the best option.
