Ligue 1 Arsenal target set to have meetings over a move to Italy

Maxime Gonalons has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the past, but the Frenchman could be heading to Napoli.

One of Arsenal’s reported transfer targets over the last six months has been Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons, who Arsenal have reportedly been tracking.

With the January transfer window open and the midfielder thought to be for sale if the right offer comes along, where have been whispers of a move to North London.

However, Rafa Benitez’s Napoli are also in the hunt for the 24-year-old’s signature, with Gonalons confirming that the Serie A giants are interested and that he needs to consider his options.

“During the week there will be several meetings with the president and the coach to find the best solution,” he told the Ligue 1 side’s official website.

“We all know that Napoli are interested in me, but there are other things that are true and false in what the press reports, so beware.

“I’m asking questions, but when you want a big club like Napoli, it is tough. There needs to be an agreement reached between the three parties.”

With Lyon in a position that they will have to sell their top players, a €13 million bid is thought to be on the table from the San Paolo outfit.
