The Argentine has endured a mixed campaign at Valencia and repeatedly has been tipped for a move away from the Mestalla.
Juan Pizzi just stepped in as the new boss for Los Che, with Marca contending that the 25-year-old will be under pressure to impress the new manager.
Banega has still made 12 starts in La Liga this term, but the Spanish newspaper was quick to note that his influence in the side ‘has waned considerably’.
Tuttosport have maintained that Milan will swoop in with a different option, however, looking to take the 25-year-old on loan.
The Italian source reports that Valencia value Banega at only around £8.5 million, though transfer guru Adriano Galliani isn’t keen on a straight purchase nonetheless.
It’s well known that the Rossoneri have adopted a sell-to-buy policy in recent years, with Galliani reinforcing this understanding on Monday in reference to hot Serie A market item Radja Nainggolan.
Cristian Zaccardo, Antonio Nocerino, Philippe Mexes and Alessandro Matri have all been named as possible departures from San Siro by Tuttosport, but it remains unclear if their sales would warrant an outright purchase of Banega.
If reports are to be believed, then United certainly would have the advantage in dealings as Valencia would undoubtedly prefer a straight sale to a loan.
Suitors will be having a look at the Argentina international in January, though he hasn’t yet asked to leave the club, hoping to take advantage if Pizzi deems Banega surplus to requirements.
