Tottenham transfer latest: Soldado backed, Spurs missing out on defender

Some of the latest stories surrounding Tottenham Hotspur on this Monday evening.

Tim Sherwood has given his backing to under fire striker Roberto Soldado, saying it is only a matter of time before the striker comes good according to the Evening Standard.

Soldado has struggled to find his stride in the Premier League, but Sherwood thinks he will produce the goods if he sticks at it.

Sherwood said: ‘He is a good pro. He seems to be all right, he seems to be happy in himself. I would like to give him a few more chances than he had at Arsenal.

‘He has been in the game for a long time and he knows where the net is – we don’t have to teach him that.’

On the transfer front, an offer has been made for transfer target Miralem Pjanic according to his agent. Manchester United and PSG are also said to be interested in the Bosnia international.

His agent is quoted as saying: ‘We have had many offer for Miralem, and not necessarily from PSG.’

One target that Spurs look as though they will miss out on is Manchester United left-back Alexander Buttner, with the player determined to fight for his place at Old Trafford.

It has been reported that Spurs were looking to take the Dutchman on loan, but he is quoted by TalkSport saying: ‘I know there are some clubs that want me but I’m happy here and want to play for Manchester United.’

Spurs have been boosted by the return of midfielder Sandro to training after he was sidelined since mid-December with a hamstring injury.

Kyle Walker praised Tottenham’s character despite the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup at the weekend and is looking ahead to the Crystal Palace game in the league at the weekend at White Hart Lane.

Walker told the club’s website: ‘Obviously going to Manchester United, which is a difficult place to go, and getting a result was fantastic. The Arsenal game was a disappointment but now we move on and look forward to Crystal Palace.’
