Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a considerable amount of players last summer, and seemingly did their best to sign all of them. But one player who did not find his way to White Hart Lane was Cagliari midfielder Radja Nainggolan.
The 25-year-old Belgian was said to be on Tottenham’s radar back in June, but the North London side instead looked elsewhere for reinforcements.
Yet it seems Nainggolan’s future is not at Cagliari, with Football Italia reporting that Rafa Benitez’s Napoli have agreed a €9million fee for a man who has played practically every available minute for his current club this season.
The report – initially from Gazzetta dello Sport – claims that with a transfer fee agreed, it is now up to the player to discuss personal terms. And yet there could still be a spanner in the works, with Italian football journalist Tancredi Palmeri claiming Roma have now trumped Napoli’s bid.
Apparently Roma have outbid Napoli for Nainggolan— Tancredi Palmeri (@tancredipalmeri) January 6, 2014
With the player’s future seemingly in his own hands, he could still opt to play under the former Chelsea boss. Or could Tottenham yet return with a bid of their own?
