Ex-Gunner Alexandre Song, in just a season and a half in La Liga, has set an individual record with new club Barcelona.
Defensive-minded midfielder Alex Song, 26, who spent seven years on the books at Arsenal, breaking through into the senior squad in 2008 before garnering an exceptional reputation as an interceptor of the football capable of making his own key passes, has set a record for his new club Barcelona after just 18 months at Camp Nou.
While not an established first-teamer at Barcelona per se, Song remains a useful asset for Gerardo Martino and will fortify his bid for more regular inclusion with the following interesting face - he has not once tasted defeat in La Liga competition.
At home on Sunday, January 5, Barcelona hosted Elche and stuck four goals past them as Alexis Sanchez returned a hat-trick, delighting the home crowds while Lionel Messi continues his absence through injury.
The result puts Barcelona at the top of the Primera Division in Spain, having returned 49 points from 18 matches, the same points return as Atletico Madrid, who are placed second due to their inferior goal differential.
While Barcelona dominated possession (64%) and had a defence that stifled Elche so much that the visitors failed to register one shot on target, one of the more interesting facts from the match arose because of the personal record of one of the Barcelona defenders - Alex Song - who is now the only player in La Liga to have gone undefeated in his first 30 appearances in the competition.
Song's inclusion against Elche was his tenth of the season. He featured 20 times in the division last year, after transferring from the Emirates Stadium for a £15m fee.
