AC Milan have a commanding lead over Atalanta when it comes to their head-to-head record but no game is as memorable as the October 15, 1972 clash which finished 9-3 to the Rossoneri.
Massimiliano Allegri's men are in crisis ahead of their first game of 2014, which promises to be a tough test against the Bergamo boys.
Including two games in Serie B, Milan have beaten Atalanta 29 times in previous encounters, 17 have ended as draws and Atalanta have won just eight.
Milan have netted a total of 105 goals in games against the Orobici and have conceded 49 but the total was significantly increased by one exceptional score-line.
The 9-3 win at San Siro remains a record for the most goals in an Italian league match with Pierino Prati grabbing a hat-trick, legend Gianni Rivera and attacking midfielder Alberto Bigon each scoring twice as well as goals from Romeo Benetti and Luciano Chiarugi.
Milan led 4-1 at half-time and cruised to 6-1 before Atalanta pulled one back. However that was to prove temporary respite and the hosts were 8-2 ahead before Alberto Carelli netted for 8-3 in the latter stages leaving time for Prati to round off the rout with a free-kick.
