Fiorentina are ready to launch an audacious bid for Manchester United man Nemanja Vidic whose contract expires at the end of the season, according to Tuttosport.
It is the eighth anniversary of Vidic arriving at Manchester United from Spartak Moscow and it seems that the pugnacious defender's spell at Old Trafford may be drawing to a close.
Juventus were widely linked with Vidic towards the tail end of last year, but the Old Lady's transfer ambitions have been hit by their unexpected Champions League exit.
And Fiorentina may take advantage to step in, taking advantage of the same link between the clubs that allowed them to sign Giuseppe Rossi.
Vidic has been dogged by injury problems in recent months which may help Fiorentina convince United to let the 32-year-old leave.
However, Tuttosport is keen to stress that Fiorentina would only move for Vidic if he were able to pass a strict medical.
Fiorentina are currently fourth in Serie A trailing Napoli by three points and leaders Juventus by 13 points.
The Viola's title ambitions have all but disappeared for this season but Champions League qualification is a must.
