Liverpool target rubbishes transfer talk: "I never said I wanted to leave"

The Reds’ chances of signing Jeremy Menez from Paris Saint-Germain now look slim.

Liverpool are thought to be one of the main Premier League clubs ready to splash the cash this January, with a move for Mohamed Salah said to be close to completion.

Another name that has been repeatedly linked with the Anfield club is Paris Saint-Germain attacker Jeremy Menez.

The France international has found first-team opportunities at the Parc des Princes tough to come by this season, and his contract with the Ligue 1 giants is expiring in the summer.

As such, both Liverpool and Juventus have been linked with a move for Menez, who is thought to be available at a cut-price due to his contract situation.

However, in a blow for Brendan Rodgers’ men, Menez has pledged to stay and fight for a place in Laurent Blanc’s team for the remainder of the campaign.

“I'm going to try to win myself a place in the team and work hard to achieve that,” Menez stated to L’Equipe.

“There may have been some difficult moments, but I say to myself that they will pass. Personally, I have never said that I want to leave.”

Even if Liverpool cannot sign Menez in January, there still may well be an opportunity in the summer if his contract with PSG is not sorted out.
