Walcott stretchered off injured - Arsenal striker crisis highlighted

Theo Walcott was stretchered off for Arsenal today - again highlighting their fragile striking status.

Arsenal have beaten Tottenham Hotspur 2- 0 in the FA Cup this evening - dumping their North London rivals out in the process.

Goals from Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky saw The Gunners comfortably win with a superb performance in front of their own crowd - despite an injury ravaged side.

In particular they are suffering in the striking department. Olivier Giroud watched the game from his sickbed, whilst Nicklas Bendtner has a nasty ankle injury. Lukas Podolski is only recently recovered from injury himself while summer signing Yaya Sanogo has been injured all season.

So Arsene Wenger decided to play Theo Walcott through the middle.

The England international had a great game - with his pace threatening Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches throughout.

But despite his good performance it came at a price.

He injured himself three times in the game. Firstly, he was raked down the Achilles by Chiriches, and then he hurt his back. But the knockout blow was a tumble when challenging with Danny Rose - which saw him jar his knee.

We are now awaiting the official news on how severe the damage is - as he was stretchered off after four minutes of on-field treatment.

However, he certainly didn’t look in too much discomfort as he left the stadium - this picture shows him giving the Spurs fans a friendly reminder of the score…
