Manchester United’s Benfica target confirms his desire to move - report

Reports in Portugal and Argentina suggest Manchester United target Nicolas Gaitan would like to challenge himself in another country.

We all have our favourite places to shop and, if numerous reports are to be believed, Manchester United are planning on doing the majority of their upcoming shopping in Portugal.

David Moyes’ staff have been regularly sighted scouting some of the Primeira Liga’s brightest talents, with William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon and Nemanja Matic of Benfica most regularly linked in recent times.

But a teammate of Matic – and a player previously tipped with a switch to Old Trafford during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign – has revealed he would consider leaving Portugal in the future.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola has picked up on an interview Gaitan gave to Argentine paper Ole, in which he is reported to have said, “I’d like to play in another league to know if I am up to it.”

But before United – or any of his other apparent suitors – get too excited, the attacking midfielder added, “I have a contract with Benfica, and only think about that.”

Reports in November claimed David Moyes was keen on the £25million-rated player as he saw a new winger as a priority, and with doubts remaining over the long-term future of both Nani and Ashley Young, that could remain the case.

Whether Gaitan wants to challenge himself in England remains to be seen. But it is clear he is eyeing a fresh challenge, and becoming part of Moyes’ new-look United could be the perfect solution.
