Adebayor: An asset or liability for Tottenham against Arsenal?

The Spurs striker is set to face his former club in the FA Cup encounter; will he be the deciding factor in the game?

Tottenham travel to take on North London rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup today, with both sides eager to get one up on their close neighbours and make the next round of the tournament.

One man that will be handed a relatively frosty reception at the Emirates Stadium is visiting forward Emmanuel Adebayor, who has been named as fit to face his former club.

The Togo international has been brought back into the fold by new Spurs boss Tim Sherwood and has been in inspired form of late.

After playing a major role in his side’s win at Old Trafford last time out, Adebayor will be gunning for glory against his former employers today.

The African attacker seems to be at his best whenever he has a point to prove, which he has done of late after being left in the fringes by Andre Villas-Boas.

Adebayor would surely like nothing more to score the winner against Arsenal, and hush the home faithful.

However, with passions sure to be flowing, the emotive striker could also provide a telling factor for all the wrong reasons.

After scoring against Arsenal for Manchester City he spontaneously ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Gunners support.

In a recent 5-2 hammering for Spurs at the Emirates, it was Adebayor dismissal for a rash tackle that saw his team reduced to ten men and eventually capitulate under pressure.

All Spurs fans will be glad to see Adebayor fit to face Arsenal, but the unpredictable Togolese attacker could be as much of a liability as he is an asset to Sherwood’s men.
