Chris Willock has been granted the luxury of training with Arsene Wenger's senior professionals.
Arsenal’s academy Twitter feed confirmed last night that 15-year-old Chris Willock has been training with the rest of Arsene Wenger’s first team squad members.
Wenger is one of the best in the business in terms of taking teenage talent and turning those players into top class footballers with former Gunner Cesc Fabregas and current star Jack Wilshere two good contemporary examples.
One of the tactics used by top flight managers to aid the development and confidence of younger players is allowing them to train with the first team alongside players that have idolised since they started playing football.
Willock is a versatile player who has experience of playing in three different positions; left wing, right wing, attacking midfield and centre forward and that versatility should regularly see him getting games in higher age groups in Arsenal’s academy setup.
Any attack minded player who can play effectively in different positions stands a great chance of accumulating appearances because he has more than one way to get into a side.
He’s already made one appearance for the under-18 side and if his development continues impressively he could feature in the Premier Academy League over the rest of the season.
Domestically, Arsenal’s under-18 side have been terrible this season, sitting bottom of the southern section which increases the likelihood that Willock will get further chances to play at a higher age and quality level.
However, it’s at under-16 level where he’s making a name for himself with consistent performances which have seen him mentioned on more than one occasion on that AFC Twitter feed.
Definitely one to watch over the next few years as he’ll be aiming to get fast tracked into the Arsenal senior side.
