Christian Benteke’s agent has confirmed that his client won’t be moving anywhere in January.
The 22-year-old Aston Villa striker hasn’t quite lived up to last season’s heights yet still remains a key player at Villa Park. The Belgian striker has struggled with niggling injuries, making just 13 Premier League starts. However, his contribution has been noteworthy, and for a side that isn’t the most creative, his four goals represent a satisfactory return.
Despite not scoring since September, Benteke’s importance was most evident when he was out injured. The Belgian striker missed three key games over the Christmas period against fellow bottom half sides Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Swansea City, and without the Belgian striker, Villa struggled and scored just two goals, picking up a solitary point.
His return to action against Sunderland was a welcome gift for the Midlanders, and his team-mates were delighted with his return as Villa went home with three valuable points after winning 1-0. The striker’s lack of goals clearly hasn’t put off interest, and with January now upon us, Paul Lambert will be delighted to hear that his agent has ruled out a winter move
Speaking with fichajes, Christian Benteke’s agent Kismet Eris has reassured Villa fans that his client will be staying in Birmingham until at least the summer
"We have to be realistic. He has just returned to play on the 1st of January and to speak of leaving is ridiculous. There are no doubts over his exit at this momente in time. If it was not planned at the beginning of the season, it is not something we foresee now."
These words might be concerning for Arsenal and their manager, or Tottenham who were linked with him in the summer. Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer of the Belgian, having been constantly linked to the Belgian striker over the summer.
Following the injuries to Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner, it’s fairly plausible that the Gunners are in the market for a striker this transfer window and should they not be able to secure the rather unlikely deal for Diego Costa, Benteke’s agent’s words now appear that a potential plan B no longer exists.
Will Arsenal sign a striker in January? Is Christian Benteke still an option?
