The top players linked with signing for Tottenham Hotspur this week

Berbatov Fulham

Fulham, Manchester City, Juventus, Manchester United and West Brom stars all feature.

Tottenham Hotspur look like a partially revitalised team under the guidance of Tim Sherwood and the number of players linked to Spurs is increasing following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

Sherwood has got his side playing an aggressive and forward thinking brand of football and while Tottenham may not have the cash to spend which they spent in the summer, one or two January additions could still be possible.

Here are the top five players linked with joining the club this week.

1) Dimitar Berbatov (Fulham)

It was only natural that when speculation started surrounding the future of Dimitar Berbatov, former employers Spurs would be mentioned as a possible destination.

Tottenham originally sold Berbatov to Manchester United in a £30 million deal and stories this week have suggested a possible £2 million fee.

That could be very appealing to Tottenham and Sherwood as it provides them with attacking cover and allows them to save for the summer.

2) Joleon Lescott (Manchester City)

Injuries to Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen have left Tottenham a little short at the back.

Several sources have raised the suggestion of Tottenham going after out of favour Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott, with a view to taking the centre back on loan for the rest of the season.

Some reports state City boss Manuel Pellegrini has told Lescott he can leave.

3) Mirko Vucinic (Juventus)

A possible addition up front is high profile Juventus star Mirko Vucinic.

Reports from Italy today have suggested that Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta will fly to London to speak with the club over a possible €10 million deal.

It could be a risk worth taking for Sherwood with Jermain Defoe, Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor as his only strikers.

4) Alexander Buttner (Manchester United)

Buttner has not been a regular in Manchester United colours this season and the Mirror led with a story this week claiming Spurs wanted the left-back on loan.

With Benoit Assou-Ekotto unlikely to return from his loan deal at QPR, Danny Rose remains the best left-back option and United may be receptive to a deal if David Moyes makes a defensive signing this month.

5) Shane Long (West Brom)

Shane Long is another potential striker target with the Sun suggesting Tim Sherwood is keen on the player.

However, before Tottenham fans mull over whether it would be a good deal, the same source also states that Sherwood will have to sell a player before he’s allowed to bring Long in.
