Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Southampton and Dinamo Zagreb stars all feature.
Manchester United boss David Moyes has some big decisions to make this month as he plans how to save his team’s season.
The Premier League champions suffered their fourth home defeat of the season at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur and there are plenty of people calling for big January signings to help close the gap on the top teams.
Moyes has said he will do everything he can to sign targets for this month. Here are the five top players linked with an Old Trafford switch in the last week.
1) Juan Mata (Chelsea)
Jose Mourinho’s comments that he wouldn’t stop Juan Mata leaving the club have created the very realistic suggestion that United could do a deal for the Spaniard.
He ticks every box in terms of the sort of midfielder United need at the moment and the club wouldn’t have a problem paying the fee.
The only stumbling block would be Mourinho’s reluctance to sell to a rival after refusing to let Demba Ba join Arsenal last summer.
2) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)
Another superstar player United have been linked with is £35-40 million rated Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund.
Reus is another player who ticks every box in terms of what United would be looking for and there have been plenty of stories over possible deals this week.
However, comments Reus has given in the German press suggest he’s not looking to force a move away from the club.
3) Arturo Vidal (Juventus)
Another very familiar name to United fans at the moment is Juventus Arturo Vidal.
Trends in the betting market this week saw Vidal priced in to a short price to make a switch to United before the start of next month.
Vidal has been in good form for the Serie A giants this season with seven goals and four assists from all league appearances.
Barcelona are also thought to be interested.
4) Luke Shaw (Southampton)
The Daily Star has suggested that Moyes has made signing Luke Shaw from Southampton his priority for this month.
This isn’t a new link for United fans as Moyes tries to find a long term replacement for left-back Patrice Evra who has shown no indication of signing a new deal with the club.
Shaw is valued at £20 million and Moyes showed he wants a left-back last summer with moves for Leighton Baines and Fabio Coentrao.
5) Robert Muric (Dinamo Zagreb)
One of the more obscure and less publicised transfer rumours relates to Dinamo Zagreb’s Robert Muric.
The Daily Mail and the Mirror have both reported on the possibility that United could snatch the £6 million rated 17-year-old striker for as little as a fee of £300,000.
Chelsea and Barcelona are among the sides reported to have scouted him.
