Real Madrid, Barcelona, FC Basel, Derby County and Napoli stars feature.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has made it very clear that he’s looking for squad reinforcements as his side prepare to fight for a top four place over the second half of the season.
Liverpool have been blessed that the players Rodgers has selected to compensate for injuries have all performed admirably but some extra squad depth will make the club even stronger.
Here are the top five players to have been linked with the club this week.
1) Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid are reportedly confident that they will be able to hang onto former star Xabi Alonso.
The news from Spain will be a big blow to Liverpool if Rodgers was keen on bringing the Spaniard back to Anfield.
Fortunately for Liverpool, central midfield is an area where they do have plenty of cover as captain Steven Gerrard returns from injury.
2) Martin Montoya (Barcelona)
This isn’t a new one for Liverpool fans because Montoya is a player Rodgers’ side were linked with strongly last summer.
Every indication suggested that he would sign a new deal with the Spanish champions but talks have broken down, prompting the suggestion that Liverpool could still do a deal for the player.
3) Mohamed Salah (FC Basel)
Several reports this week have suggested that Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling could be allowed to join Swansea City on loan.
However, that idea is based on a deal for FC Basel’s Mohamed Salah going through, as reported in the Times today.
A deal for the Egyptian midfielder is close according to several sources.
4) Will Hughes (Derby County)
The Mirror has reported that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Derby, which will give them first option on signing Will Hughes.
The £15 million rated midfielder has been linked with a host of top Premier League sides, but Liverpool appear to have moved into the favourite’s position to sign their man.
An official and permanent deal could happen this month but is more likely to come in the summer.
5) Armando Anastasio (Napoli)
This rumour comes a little from left field with TalkSport reporting that Liverpool are interested in the Napoli teenager.
Anastasio is yet to make his first team debut for the Serie A giants but Rodgers is believed to have received several scouting reports on the right-back which suggest he could be a solid investment.
