A round up of key news and transfer stories about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe has confirmed that Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Joe Allen have all progressed well from recent injuries. Pascoe confirmed at a press conference earlier that the current injury list will not affect the club's January transfer plans.
"Sturridge is out there training and looking good, but you’ve got to assess it day by day and hope it won’t be too long," said Pascoe.
Pascoe has also laughed off the suggestion that winger Raheem Sterling will be allowed to leave the club on loan this month.
Liverpool are set to make a number of changes ahead of their FA Cup tie against Oldham Athletic. Brad Jones could get the nod in goal, while Gerrard is likely to start following injury along with Daniel Agger. Mamadou Sakho won’t feature.
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has called for focus ahead of the FA Cup tie against Oldham this weekend. Oldham have been a thorn in the side of the club in the recent past, knocking Liverpool out last year.
“For them it is already a cup final. It is already a big game for them to look forward to and they will come here and try to show everyone what they can do at a ground like Anfield. We have to make sure we are professional and do a job,” the Belgian told the Liverpool Echo.
In transfer news, former Tottenham striker Mido has claimed that a Liverpool deal for Mohamed Salah is close. Liverpool have been linked with the FC Basel winger for a number of weeks and Mido took to Twitter to announce the deal will go through next week.
Liverpool will face competition from Swansea City if they want to move for Tom Ince this month. The former Liverpool man has regularly been linked with moves back to Anfield since he started gaining recognition in the Championship with Blackpool.
In another transfer story, Adam Morgan has signed for Championship side Yeovil Town permanently. The young striker has been on loan with the club but Liverpool commissioned a permanent switch and Morgan has thanked the club for their support throughout his development.
In other news, former Liverpool star Jan Molby has urged the club to keep hold of Iago Aspas. The forward has struggled to settle in at the club since a £7.7 million move from Celta Vigo last summer.
“In the case of Iago Aspas, what we’ve seen of him so far does not suggest he will blossom any time soon. It has been suggested that Aspas should go out on loan but I’m not sure what that proves,” said Molby.
Former Chelsea star Jason Cundy has claimed that Liverpool have the worst set of supporters in the country. Cundy was speaking during Chelsea’s game against Southampton this week.
“I’ve been having some interesting conversations with Liverpool fans on Twitter. They are the most bitter, twisted, bitchy and spiteful fans I have ever, ever come across. By some distance,” he said.
