The January transfer window has officially opened for silly season but which potential signing would Arsenal fans most like to see at the Emirates in 2014?
Ben Munro: “Arsenal should defo sign berbatov! There teams played well all season but could do with a guy who's more of an out and out goalscorer.”
Liam Gigg: “So Arsenal were on signing amazing strikers, Higuain, Benzema and Cavani. but instead they might be getting Berbatov.”
Former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Berbatov is not the most popular amongst fans but there is little doubt Arsenal need to sign a striker to cover for the injured Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner.
SmaugTheStupendous: “Arsenal don't need someone like Berbatov, we need someone like Benzema. And a solid holding midfield.”
Real Madrid wantaway and Giroud’s France colleague is undoubtedly the man Gunners fans would most like to see but this deal would be costly and is far more likely to go ahead in the summer than in January.
Merci: “Dear Arsene, Loic Remy is >>>>> than Berbatov. My 2 cents Boss.”
Ben Davy: “If Remy comes to Arsenal then I think it's our turn to bring the champagne.”
Another French striker who is unlikely to sign for Arsenal in January due to his season-long loan deal at Newcastle where he is steadfastly becoming a fans favourite and a key player for Alan Pardew. This is another one that is more realistic for the summer.
Filippo Inzaghi: “Me personally as an Arsenal fan right now we need 2 bid 4 Pato or Benzema, them man are on the market 4 us man.”
This has been a mooted suggestion in recent weeks with the Brazil striker having found his form again in his homeland with Corinthians after falling out of favour at former club AC Milan. At 24, he’d be the ideal age to come in and deputise for Giroud and provide top class competition but there still remain reservations over whether he can make the grade in the top European leagues.
GunnersaurousRex: “Now Morata, I would love to see at Arsenal."
There are no such doubts over this Spanish youngster. The 21-year-old Real Madrid forward would be a fantastic addition for Arsene Wenger but there is still no sign the Spanish giants are willing to let him leave the Bernabeu.
IG-AFC: “I agree with Lawro, we should sign Benteke!”
Synonymously, its unlikely Aston Villa will allow this Belgian frontman to leave, despite his recent dip in form. After he signed a new deal to keep him at Villa Park in the summer, it would take a massive offer to even tempt Paul Lambert to consider selling Benteke.
Diego Costa or Javier Hernandez?
roger narine: “who should Arsenal sign?” How about Diego Costa Poacher! Hate to say it but Hernandez!”
Rumours the Gunners are after Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa have emerged in the last month or two. The 25-year-old has been in top form in La Liga and is subsequently linked with a move to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Mexico and Manchester United striker Hernandez has reiterated in recent weeks via his agent that he has no plans to leave Old Trafford despite his diminished status behind Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. I can’t see David Moyes letting him move to a rival club.
