Some of the key stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Friday evening.
With the third round FA Cup tie with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium less than 24 hours away, Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has said that knocking the Gunners out of the FA Cup would be ‘the pinnacle’ of his time in the Tottenham hotseat so far.
Sherwood said: ‘We have great tradition and history and want to show it respect. We would love to play a lower league team, but it’s Arsenal at the Emirates and we can’t wait. It’s a huge competition, I played a few semi-finals but never won it. It would be fantastic to take Tottenham to the final.’
The Spurs boss also played down reports linking Manchester City’s Joleon Lescott with a loan move to White Hart Lane, saying he is concentrating more on getting players who are at the club and on the sidelines, fit.
‘I think the club have always backed their managers and I don’t think they will be different with me, but I really think we are fine once we get everyone fit. We are just looking in that treatment room and seeing if it can empty a little bit and when it does we can assess what we need and what we might need.’
Spurs have received a triple injury boost with Andros Townsend, Jermain Defoe and Lewis Holtby all returning to training this morning following injury.
QPR boss Harry Redknapp has distanced himself from rumours that he could take strikers Jermain Defoe and Harry Kane on loan, and is quoted as saying by TalkSport: ‘I could never see that happening – no. Harry Kane? He came on against Manchester United so I doubt Tim Sherwood will let him go, especially if Defoe goes.’
And finally, the Daily Mail have revealed the reasoning behind the fallout between Emmanuel Adebayor and Andre Villas-Boas, which was the striker’s failure to remove a beanie hat when asked by the Portuguese coach.
The Mail reports there was a heated exchange between the two, and Villas-Boas said he wouldn’t play the striker.
