Pascoe laughs off Sterling rumours, learns lesson from Oldham loss

Colin Pascoe addressed the media ahead of Liverpool's FA Cup third round tie with Oldham Athletic on Sunday at Anfield

Liverpool Assistant Manager Colin Pascoe laughed off reports that Raheem Sterling will leave the club on loan in the transfer window.

Taking the place of manager Brendan Rodgers, Pascoe was speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup tie against Oldham Athletic.

Pascoe said: 'We just laughed at that, really. Raheem has been brilliant this season and he won't be going anywhere.'

Steven Gerrard came through his cameo against Hull City unscathed on New Years' Day, and the Reds' Assistant Manager said that Daniel Sturridge, Jon Flanagan and Joe Allen are not far away from returning to the side.

'Daniel has been out, Stevie has been out, you know it's not a big squad but when you get a tight squad together you work hard. That's showing with the results.

'It's great with Stevie coming back now and Daniel back soon. Young Jon Flanagan, again he's been playing so well then he got injured. We'll have three or four players, hopefully, in the next week or ten days coming back.

'At the moment we may be a little bit thin but within seven days or ten days you've got four players coming back with Jordon Ibe as well.'

In terms of transfers coming in to the club, Pascoe says the work is ongoing, but no names were brought up.

'It's always ongoing. It's not just in January or in the Summer, it's always ongoing.'

Pascoe said that both Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas are training well after taking a little time to adapt to life in the Premier League - having recently been linked with moves away from the club lately despite only moving to Anfield in the summer.

In reply to the question of if they've learned any lessons from last year's fourth round loss to Oldham, Pascoe said: 'Not to lose.'
