How to wear this trend without taking it back to your teens!
When it smells like teen spirit, the general rule is to avoid it at all costs after your twentieth birthday, in an attempt to distance yourself from the world of post-punk and generally feel more like a grow up. But with Saint Laurent’s latest collection undeniably inspired by our favourite nineties bands and icons, it’s time to grab your trusty pair of skinny jeans, and it doesn’t even matter if they’re ripped.
Started from the bottom
Now we’re talking about the staple part of a grunge-inspired look. You’ve had these jeans for years; they’ve seen everything from the gig of the century to sunrise post-house party, and have a story to tell. But, if you don’t have the time, you can buy a pair of jeans already distressed and make your own stories.
To top it off
Normally associated with those kids at school who didn’t seem to know what shampoo was, the beanie has been reclaimed by the street and championed by it model Cara Delevingne. The slouchier the better, as they add a relaxed feel to any outfit. Choose either a black one to pare down your look, or add a pop of colour with something a bit more neon.
Keep your tartan where you can see it
Did you buy into AW’s tartan trend? Thankfully here’s another reason to thank our Scottish pals, as a tartan shirt left unbuttoned over a white t-shirt is the simplest way to add a bit of grunge into your wardrobe, and it involves minimal effort.
