Former Tottenham star claims long-term Spurs target will join Liverpool next week

Ex Tottenham Hotspur striker Mido has announced Mohamed Salah to Liverpool deal on his official Twitter account.

FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah first caught the attention of Premier League managers with his impressive performances against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League - and the man dubbed the ‘Egyptian Messi’ has gained plenty of suitors in that time.

But Andre Villas-Boas was a big fan - and was expected to move for him once again - a scenario that was pulled cleanly from underneath him.

The other big players in Salah’s pursuit, at least from a Premier League perspective have been Liverpool - with Brendan Rodgers also keen on the forward.

Three days ago it was reported the two clubs had agreed a £7 million fee (which would prove to be a snip)but that is now not believed to be true - as Basel want more.

And according to one apparently in the know source Liverpool have stumped up the cash.

Former Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough and West Ham striker Mido - himself an Egyptian footballing legend- now works as a TV pundit for Al Jazeera.

And he has claimed a deal is now done - with completion and finalisation set for next week, which will see Raheem Sterling join Swansea City on loan for the remainder of 2013-14.

Now Mido was never the most reliable person on the pitch - so who knows if he is off of it.

But he did go on to gush over Salah - suggesting Liverpool were perfect for him and that his countryman is 'much better' than Sterling or Victor Moses.

Time will tell if his prophecies are correct - on all counts.
