Yesterday it was reported that Liverpool had agreed a deal with Derby County over their wonderfully talented midfield man, Will Hughes. The deal involved Derby County keeping influential defender Andre Wisdom until the end of the season without a possibility of a recall, in exchange for a courtesy call to Rodgers when Derby decide to sell the England U21 midfielder.
The deal works out for all parties as Derby County get to keep one of the best defenders in the division until the end of the season, thus strengthening their promotion charge. Liverpool get to keep tabs on one of the brightest talents in the country, in exchange of another of their talented players gaining much needed first team football and Will Hughes gets to keep playing week in, week out - knowing that when the time comes, it is likely he will move to his boyhood club and hopefully go on to have a wonderful career.
However, the similarities drawn between Will Hughes and Steven Gerrard in the press couldn't be further from the truth and in actual fact the white haired wonder takes after Manchester United's ginger assassin - which won't disappoint Liverpool fans, I am sure.
Will Hughes is a player that uses his intelligence as his biggest asset on the pitch and even at a young age can dictate a game with experienced professionals on the pitch, like they are his puppets. The player has incredible vision, and at times it seems like he could thread a ball through an eye of a needle, blindfolded.
Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, Steven Gerrard has qualities that are simply not in the young midfielders game currently and without a complete change in style, would still be missing in the future.
Gerrard is well known around the world for his driven and gritty attitude towards the game, his lung busting performances is stuff of legend and will forever be known for his incredible efforts against Milan to win Liverpool the European cup. Whereas Will Hughes maybe one of the best tacklers in the Championship but is more renowned for his style, class and verve above all else. And does at times, lack that drive and physical presence of what Steven Gerrard does embody.
For now, the player is going down the path similar to Paul Scholes with the added bonus of putting in a good tackle, and should carry on following in his footsteps.
Watch the highlight reel and decide for yourself..
