Football is a fickle game and this is extremely obvious to players that can go from hero to zero within a few a months. Whilst that may not exactly be the case for Barcelona starlet Cristian Tello, there is no denying that he was looked on more favourably last season.
First team chances for the Spanish capped star have been hard to come by this season, having been reduced to playing the odd few minutes now and again, usually coming off the bench.
In fact of the player's last 5 appearances for Catalonian giants, he has only accumulated 74 minutes of actual game time. And with that kind of role at the club, it can be very difficult to stake a claim for a starting place in the next game or judge his ability.
This season hasn't been kind on the player, having started only two matches and not completing the whole 90 in either. Despite this he has shown signs of promise in each appearance when he has been handed a starting role.
The Spaniard's first start came against Sevilla where he helped Barcelona 3-2 home win and even more impressively, in his second start, not only did he helped Barca to a 4-1 win, but he also created two of the goals.
However, the best indication of Tello's abilities is from last season. Despite only making 12 starts in Barcelona's title winning season, he scored 7 and created 4 goals, which earned him a full national team call up.
He has become renowned as a very good accurate passer of the ball, although his crossing accuracy could use a little work and a keen dribbler of the ball.
And even though he would be seen a gamble for Brendan Rodgers who could possibly go out and sign someone a bit more proven and experienced, there is definitely a hidden gem in this target. Even a loan deal could be just what both club and player need.
