Match to be played on 5th January at 16:30. Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester.
David Moyes is under pressure and injuries mean he could make a couple of key changes to his side ahead of the match, with the Welsh team likely to be buoyed by results at Old Trafford already this season.
Here are the eleven players Moyes could go with for the game.
GK – David De Gea
While De Gea is producing some of the best form of his career, there’s no point dropping him. He’ll be very determined to make sure there are no breakthroughs in his back four.
RB – Chris Smalling
Smalling should continue on the right with Rafael and Phil Jones still out injured. It’s a role he’s done before and he’ll be determined to make up for a couple of errors against Tottenham.
CB – Rio Ferdinand
Ferdinand has been used sparingly in recent times by Moyes but this could be a start for him. His experience will be key against a team that like to retain possession and move the ball forward quickly.
CB – Jonny Evans
Evans will be in the heart of the United defence for the next couple of seasons and he’ll be determined to make up for his performance against Tottenham. Evans should be able to compensate for Ferdinand’s lack of pace.
LB – Alexander Buttner
For all the speculation surrounding Buttner’s future at the club, Moyes will need him for this game. Patrice Evra needs a rest and it’s a chance for Buttner to show Moyes that he can do a job.
RM – Antonio Valencia
Valencia should start because of the pace he offers on the right. There will be times during the game when United are under pressure and need to counter attack, which is where Valencia will come in.
CM – Michael Carrick
Carrick looked a little sharper against Tottenham and he controlled the tempo of United’s attacking play well. He’ll be the man Moyes uses to cut off the angles, restricting the space that Swansea have to play in.
CM – Ryan Giggs
Giggs will come in and rotate with Carrick in front of the defence and further forward. His experience doesn’t have to be sold and he’s still a very effective player when he starts any game for the club.
AM – Shinji Kagawa
Kagawa is one of the best players that United have in possession. He may start the match at attacking midfield, switching left when Danny Welbeck is urged to go forward and form a two man attack.
LM – Danny Welbeck
Welbeck has thrived in central attack in recent games. He may be named on the left to begin with but when United are on top, he will definitely move up front to partner Javier Hernandez.
ST – Javier Hernandez
There has been speculation over the future of Chicharito but this is a chance for him to win an important game for the club. He’ll play on the shoulder of the defence, creating space for the likes of Welbeck, Kagawa and Giggs to occupy.
