Just last week Zenit St Petersburg, under the guidance of ex-AS Roma head coach Luciano Spalletti, entered the fray according to Il Corriere di Verona.
The newspaper alleged that the Russian giants are prepared to offer €10 million to the Mastini for the 22-year-old’s services in January, with a three-year deal at €1.35 million per season the personal terms on the table.
According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the Stadio Bentegodi outfit have received more than just Zenit’s offer from the Russian Premier League, prompting Serie A suitors in Tuscany to ramp up efforts to prise the midfielder away from the club of his youth.
Di Marzio has maintained that Fiorentina have been in constant contact with Hellas Verona for some time with regards to Jorginho, hoping to hold off foreign interest and complete a deal as soon as possible.
Yet Andrea Mandorlini’s side remain reluctant to sell, given their strong position in sixth place despite having just been promoted and the possibility for the player’s value to increase substantially ahead of the coming summer.
Still, the Viola have a strong possibility of waving goodbye to former Manchester City man David Pizarro in the winter transfer window so will need a suitable replacement with Josip Ilicic so far proving a bust.
And recent dealings for Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi have shown great ambition on the Stadio Artemio Franchi club’s behalf, so it would be unwise to put a successful move for the 22-year-old dynamo beyond them.
Chelsea’s attention appears to have been fully captivated by Fredy Guarin for the time being as the Inter man edges ever nearer to Stamford Bridge, whilst Liverpool seem to have fallen significantly behind in their reported pursuit of Jorginho, so will need to make their interest concrete if they are to compete with Fiorentina and the host of Russian clubs that have demonstrated clear intent to negotiate.
