Cesc Fabregas may have Barcelona DNA but he continues a love affair with Arsenal from afar.
The former Gunners captain has been speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca about several issues, one of which being Mesut Ozil.
"I was surprised by Özil's move to Arsenal. He was the second best player at Real Madrid behind Ronaldo and it was surprising that he left. I'm glad he joined a club like Arsenal."
Fabregas' reasons are clearly three-fold.
First he is happy to see rivals Real Madrid weaken themselves to sell a player who contributed more La Liga assists than Lionel Messi during his time at the club, simultaneously enhancing Barcelona's and his own chances of winning medals.
Secondly he speaks from a footballing perspective that a player like Ozil deserves to play for a club where his skills can continue to be appreciated, and he can be a main man in attack rather than a squad player - or forced to share the load as he would have done at Chelsea for instance.
Thirdly Fabregas is clearly delighted in Ozil's choice, that gives his former club a greater chance of trophy success.
There could be a hidden agenda too. If Fabregas lives with the thought in the back of his mind that he may return to Arsenal one day, then perhaps he is excited at the thought of playing alongside the German.
Now there's food for thought...
