Arsenal v Cardiff City: Team news and injury update

Arsenal face an injury crisis ahead of their game with Cardiff.

Here's the latest as it stands ahead of the 3pm New Years Day kick-off.

Olivier Giroud - Giroud is likely to miss the fixture with an ankle injury, leaving Arsenal to seek alternatives up front. Wenger hinted in his press conference yesterday Lukas Podolski could get the nod, while Nicklas Bendtner is an alternative. So is..

Theo Walcott - The Englishman has a shoulder injury but did participate in training yesterday. Wenger may play it cautious however and hand Serge Gnabry an opportunity.

Mesut Ozil - Mesut Ozil is out of the fixture with a shoulder injury. He is also unlikely to feature in the weekend's FA Cup game with Tottenham.

Tomas Rosicky - Rosicky missed training yesterday with a calf injury, but Arsenal's official website report there is optimism he could feature.

Kieran Gibbs - The left-back has a calf injury and has been officially ruled out of the game. His return date is yet unclear.

Nacho Monreal - Monreal missed training with an illness, but like Rosicky there is hope he will recover to play. With Gibbs out injured there is extra attention on him being healthy to play.

Thomas Vermaelen - Vermaelen is also suffering an illness, but he did participate in training yesterday. He was not required against Newcastle but could be asked to fill in at left-back.

Aaron Ramsey - Ramsey is out with a thigh injury which could prevent him from playing for around three weeks. Arsenal will hope they have enough without him here and the rest does him good. Gedion Zelalem has been drafted into the first team squad in his place.

Jack Wilshere - Jack Wilshere as ever has an ankle injury which is hampering him, with Arsenal's website listing him as a 'doubt'. He did however take part in training yesterday.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - Long-term absentee Oxlade-Chamberlain remains out with a knee injury but is hopeful of a return in January.

Cardiff City

Craig Bellamy - Dangerman Craig Bellamy's knee injury woes continue, he has not appeared for Cardiff since November, and is unavailable for the fixture.

Andrew Taylor - Defender Andrew Taylor picked up a knock against Sunderland, and faces a race against time to be ruled fit.
