Manchester United transfer news: £16m and £20m January moves touted

Leighton Baines

A selection of transfer news relating to Manchester United

With the last knockings of 2013 comes the excitement of an impending transfer window, and Manchester United continue to be linked with left-backs despite Patrice Evra’s impressive form showing no signs of dwindling.

Today David Moyes’ men are being linked with not one but two full-backs, even if the glaring problem remains in midfield.

The Mirror reports that United have still not given up on Everton’s Leighton Baines…even if they probably should do.

They claim Moyes will make a fresh bid of £16million for a man whose manager has already made it categorically clear he will not be leaving this season.

And if that does not work – which it won’t – the Telegraph claims Moyes is pondering a £20million bid for Southampton’s Luke Shaw – the man destined to ultimately replace Baines in the England national team.

And when the Saints also say no, United will be left with a perfectly good full-back in Evra, while still lacking the dominant, box-to-box midfielder they are crying out for.
