Liverpool could unveil a signing in the first week of the transfer window, if reports are to be believed.
Cristian Tello of Barcelona is closing in on a loan switch to Anfield, which could develop into a permanent deal.
Sources in Spain appear adamant a deal is on the horizon, with Marca claiming it is 'imminent'.
"Youngster will initially go to Liverpool on loan: Tello move to Liverpool imminent.
"Cristian Tello is nearing his Barca exit during the coming winter transfer window. As revealed by Radio MARCA, the player who came through the 'Culé' youth system already has one foot in Liverpool."
Tello won his first Spanish international cap in August in a match against Ecuador, but has struggled for game time with Barcelona this season.
The 22-year-old has made 10 appearances this season in La Liga, but only two starts.
The winger is capable of playing on either the left or right wing, and would be Liverpool's second acquisition from Barcelona within months, having signed young prospect Luis Alberto on a permanent deal in the summer.
Liverpool are well positioned in the Premier League heading into the New Year, which brings with it added pressure.
Finishing outside the top four would at this point seem like a failure to build on their promising start, so bringing in new additions is essential to helping the Reds capitalise on the first half of the season.
Brendan Rodgers bought excellently in January 2013, signing Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho; bringing in Tello this time around, on loan too, is surely a perfect deal which will help them get closer to upsetting the Premier League predictions made at the start of the season.
