The news that Paulinho will be out of action for at least four weeks after sustaining ligament damage following an over-the-ball tackle attempt from Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam, Tottenham Hotspur fans were reminded of when Gareth Bale succumbed to injury after a robust challenge from the same player.
Former Spurs chairman and prominent Tottenham social media commentator Lord Sugar issued a couple of messages:
First Bale and now Paulinho crocked by the same player when will the FA or PL act? 'http://t.co/1aI48pXp6O— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) December 31, 2013
No action from FA yet .Disgrace Paulinho out for 4 weeks, fan/journo must condemn this kind of malicious intent 'http://t.co/1aI48pXp6O— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) December 31, 2013
And, while the player will not be sanctioned from the FA, according to The Guardian, he has issued an official response.
Just for the record and to the people tweeting me abuse saying so, I don't and never have had anything against @SpursOfficial— Charlie Adam (@Charlie26Adam) December 30, 2013
... And I would never intend to injure a fellow professional— Charlie Adam (@Charlie26Adam) December 30, 2013
The injurious challenge was put forth to a disciplinary panel but neither the three-man FA panel nor the referee at the time - Kevin Friend - deemed the tackle to be worthy of retrospective action or a red card.
