Manchester United beat Norwich City 1-0 away on Sunday putting them in touching distance of the top four just two points off after four wins on the trot in December.
David Moyes has challenged Danny Welbeck to break his goal barrier and score 20 goals this season after the England striker scored the winner this weekend coming on as a substitute.
The Red Devils take on Tottenham next on New Years Day at 5.30pm at Old Trafford.
Wayne Rooney is expected to return for the clash with Spurs according to Moyes:
"Danny Welbeck couldn't score very often last season, but he looks like he will do it every time now. He changed the game when he came on,” said the boss following the Norwich win.
"He is doing very well, and we need everybody to chip in with goals when Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are out. I would expect Rooney to be back for Tottenham."
There is also positive news on Robin van Persie’s fitness. Van Persie is progressing well and is ‘on the verge of a comeback’ from his thigh injury.
In transfer news, The Mirror links United with moves for Diego Costa and summer target Ander Herrera in January.
The same source also reports that United are preparing a £50 million swoop for Ross Barkley of Everton to reunite the England youngster with coach David Moyes.
The Metro, however, claims United are preparing a £25 million bid for Spanish midfielder Koke of Atletico Madrid.
United are also set to re-loan youngster Nick Powell out to Hull to get more experience with club legend Steve Bruce as his mentor.
