Some of the latest news surrounding Liverpool Football Club this Monday evening
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said the club is working hard to identify suitable transfer targets to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window.
The club has been linked with Barcelona winger Christian Tello – and not for the first time with reports in Spain indicate that Tello could move to Merseyside on loan for the rest of the season, with the 22-year-old only managing two starts in La Liga so far this season.
But Rodgers said at his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Hull City on New Years’ Day that no signings were imminent.
The Liverpool boss said: ‘There’s nothing to add on anything with regard to players coming in. There’s nothing imminent.
‘Obviously the recruitment team are busy putting things together in terms of the profile of the players we need here to improve the team and the squad.
‘The owners have invested millions up millions into the team; every window we arrive in looking to improve it where we can. This window will be no different.’
Rodgers has also been praising the current squad for the progress they have made during 2013, saying: ‘I thought that over the last year, from January till now, the squad has been outstanding.
‘There’s a great group of players and we’re all working on talking the team forward. If we can continue with our effort and desire to work harder, we will push on in 2014 as well.’
Another target of Liverpool’s – Hellas Verona’s Jorginho – is rumoured to be moving away from the Serie A club according to TalkSport. The 22-year-old’s agent is said to be meeting the midfielder to discuss his future. Fiorentina and Zenit St Petersburg are favourites to sign the player.
