I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 29th December 2013, but a year earlier.
What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 29th December 2012…
A year ago today and Arsenal were taking on Newcastle United … sound familiar?
But unlike the tense and often drab affair that we were treated to this afternoon last years meeting was very different.
Theo Walcott scored a hat-trick playing as a striker while the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud also added their names to the scoresheet.
Demba Ba’s brace and a goal for Sylvain Marveaux could not hide the fact that Arsenal were rampant in attack and the Toon Army left North London thoroughly disappointed.
Newcastle were relegation threatened back then - but now they are chasing the European dream once again.
Chelsea moved into pole position to sign Demba Ba - according to The Telegraph. The Senegalese striker had been linked with several high profile moves over the course of the season - as he grew uneasy in his relationship with Papiss Cisse and at Newcastle’s stuttering season.
It was on this day that news of a potential £7 million switch to Stamford Bridge was first reported. On the 4th January, that deal happened - although he is being linked with a move away just 12 months later.
The rumours were Spurs wanted at least £60 million for the player.
However over the next six months he went from class to world class and soon enough it became clear £60 million wouldn’t cut it.
So instead he left for a world record fee of £85.3 million on the 1st September.
