We look at the Manchester United, Lyon, Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Manchester City players that Arsenal may have dodged a bullet on.
So we are about to exit the 2013 stage of the 2013-14 season and enter into a new year - so we were wondering if there were any players that Arsenal were linked with this summer, that Arsenal fans will be glad they didn’t sign.
Sure they will be glad they got hold of Mesut Ozil, and pretty upset they didn’t manage to snap up Gonzalo Higuain, but who are they glad didn’t come through the entrance door at The Emirates.
Arsenal were one of many teams heavily linked with the Belgian midfielder - although it always seemed an odd potential deal on paper.
Fellaini is certainly too clumsy a player to play for Arsenal - and since his megabucks switch to Manchester United he has not exactly impressed the Old Trafford faithful.
A free transfer signing of Mathieu Flamini has certainly been better business.
The French midfielder’s contract was expiring in the summer and Lyon are not exactly a team blessed with cash at the moment.
They did not want to see him leave on a free and the Gunners interest died when he signed a new deal with the French side.
But they might consider themselves lucky. Grenier has been out of form for the club this campaign and he certainly would not have added to the Arsenal midfield in this nick.
Linked heavily with The Gunners in the winter, he was another who can play in defensive midfield.
In the end he went to Atletico Madrid from Saint-Etienne. But things have not gone well in Spain. He has struggled to impress, and has played just one minute of La Liga football.
‘El Principo’ had long been linked with Arsenal over the past 18 months - and again in the summer Anderlecht looked like losing their man to North London.
But instead he went to Lazio - and was recently placed in the Serie A flops of the year team.
The Montenegrin striker was always leaving Fiorentina this summer - and for a long time it seemed as though Arsenal would be his destination.
However he went to Manchester City in a deal worth £22 million.
But injury problems and issues with form have seen him out of the team for most of the campaign.
