Liverpool transfer news: Duo linked with January arrival; Napoli to move for Agger

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Liverpool

Daniel Agger’s Liverpool future is again in question today, with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Napoli will now do everything they can to sign the centre-back in January.

Whether on loan or in a permanent deal, it appears the Danish international will soon depart Anfield given his failure to hold down a regular starting birth this season; and former boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly keen to give him the first-team football he needs.

In other news, the Daily Star Sunday is running an “exclusive” about Brendan Rodgers' top two transfer targets.

The report claims they are FC Basle’s Mohamed Salah, who has long been linked with a switch to Anfield, and Martin Montoya of Barcelona, whose contract talks have reportedly halted according to the Spanish press yesterday.

Both moves make sense given the Reds' current squad and the need to strengthen in specific areas. But there is also the suggestion that Rodgers is one striker short of what he needs to realistically challenge for trophies this season…unless of course Luis Suarez just continues to excel for the entire campaign.
