Reports in October claimed Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen would join Barcelona in the summer, to replace the departing Victor Valdes.
But two months later, he is still said to be making up his mind, with Arsenal also reportedly interested in the 21-year-old.
Reports of a pre-contract agreement between the player and the Spanish champions appeared to be wide of the mark, when Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta was quoted as saying no deal had yet been agreed.
And Ter Stegen himself has also said he knows nothing of talks between his current club and Barca and would decide his next move in due course.
While Barcelona still appears his most likely destination, the latest report from German newspaper Bild claims the Gunners and Juventus have both made improved bids in recent days, offers they claim are “significantly increased”.
While a loan move for Iker Casillas appears the more likely short-term solution should Arsene Wenger want a new ‘keeper, Ter Stegen is rated as one of the most promising young stoppers in Europe, and if the Gunners can somehow steal a march on Barca, they could secure quite a bargain next summer.
