On this day: Chelsea wanted Negredo and Henry return?

On the 28th December 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 28th December 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 28th December 2012…

Henry the third?

Thierry Henry was back training with Arsenal. The Gunners legend, on break from the MLS season with New York Red Bulls, was being linked with a potential move back to The Emirates.

Henry returned for a loan spell the previous winter and it was believed he would be on his way back to the club.

However Wenger cast doubt on a deal:

“At the moment, I think he has had a second spell at the Club that was very successful. You have to be cautious that it’s not one time too many. [I have] not completely ruled it out but I haven’t spoken about it with him at all."

Chelsea want 'The Beast'

Chelsea were being linked with a £16 million move for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo. The Spanish international was banging in the goals in La Liga and was being linked heavily with a number of Premier League teams.

How they could do with him now. Chelsea have not seen their strikers perform well at all this season, meanwhile Negredo is on fire for new team Manchester City.

Liverpool were said to be eyeing up a move for Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland. The young England international was being linked with plenty of teams for a move in January.

However he ended up going to Stoke City - for whom he still awaits a first-team debut.
