Liverpool recently secured the long-term future of Luis Suarez with the signing of a new contract and there is no wonder why they are so keen to keep him.
The Uruguayan is firing Liverpool into a title challenge and has scored a magnificent 19 goals in 14 appearances.
But there was a sting in the tail of his new deal at Anfield. It was quickly revealed that he had two release clauses in his deal.
It is reported, although not confirmed, that he can leave Liverpool for £100 million if a team from abroad move for him - and £130 million if a team in the Premier League want to snap him up.
Which may sound like he is going nowhere - but there is no doubt, if you ask me, that one team would be willing to spend triple figure millions to snap up the player.
Real Madrid splashed a similar amount to bring in Gareth Bale this summer and have regularly broken the transfer record in the past with Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Zinedine Zidane examples.
And one man who shares my opinion is Liverpool legend John Barnes. The former mazy winger, who played over 400 games for Liverpool, believes that if Real Madrid come calling he will leave - even if Liverpool make the Champions League:
“Liverpool need to finish in the top four to have any chance of holding on to Suarez. That’s not to say though that, by qualifying for the Champions League, he will definitely stay. He’s signed a new contract but, even if they finish fourth, if Real Madrid come in [then he’ll leave]. I would love him to stay but I can’t say hand on heart that he will in the summer.”
Real are certainly the type of team Liverpool must fear in their attempts to keep Suarez at the club for years to come - and many a fan will also share Barnes’ worries.
