L'Equipe's team of 2013: Two Premier League players but no Suarez, Van Persie or Hazard

Yaya Toure

The French newspaper has named its world football side of 2013, with a distinct lack of English-based players.

With 2013 coming to a close, plenty of media outlets are naming their team of the year.

Respected French newspaper L’Equipe have done likewise, with their XI for 2013 listed.

Here is the team:

GK: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)

RB: Philippe Lahm (Bayern Munich)

CB: Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)

CB: Thiago Silva (PSG)

LB: Jordi Alba (Barcelona)

CM: Yaya Toure (Manchester City)

CM: Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich)

RM: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)

AM: Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)

LM: Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich)

ST: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Manchester City duo Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure do make the cut, but there are no places for any other Premier League stars, with the likes of Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero shunned on the list.

European champions Bayern Munich have five inclusions, with City and Barcelona next on two each.
