Chelsea leftback Ashley Cole has had a fairly busy festive period. Despite not playing much due to the form of fellow fullback Cear Azpilicueta, the former Arsenal man decided to visit his ex-club’s Christmas bash just days before Chelsea's big game at the Emirates.
Cole was then dropped by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, however the defender found himself back in the frame and featured in the Boxing Day defeat of Swansea City, after Azpilicueta picked up a knock and was ruled out. The Chelsea number 3 went on to have a productive game, even claiming an assist for the only goal of the game.
Amid the speculation that Southampton’s young promising left back Luke Shaw, 18, could be on his way to Chelsea, the Guardian has quoted Cole, who is said to have declared that he’d like to see the Saints full back at Stamford Bridge.
When asked the question on Twitter, Cole replied: 'Hope to see him there to be honest'.
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has said, however, that he would turn down any offer for Shaw in January.
'It is a very clear situation', he said this week. 'The player wants to stay, (and) the club is not willing to sell'.
Shaw has been playing regularly at Southampton this season and improving dramatically under the guidance of Pochettino to the point where an England cap is a realistic possibility in the short term.
