On this day: Lewandowski to United, Wilshere 'amazing' and Holtby rejects new deal

On the 26th December 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 26th December 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 26th December 2012…

The Daily Mail reported on the news that Robert Lewandowski would definitely be signing for Manchester United at the end of last season.

Lewandowski was widely expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer as he entered the final year of his contract with Die Schwarzgelben.

It was reported in Germany that United would sign him for £18 million.

Of course that did not happen. He stayed at Dortmund this season and is now expected to sign for Bayern Munich on a Bosman ruling next summer.

Wil-sure he'll come good

Santi Cazorla was singing the praises of Jack Wilshere. The Arsenal youngster had recently returned from a series of injury problems - but was finally beginning to impress again in the Arsenal shirt.

And the Spaniard was in no doubt of his ability:

“He has amazing potential. I did not know him well when I arrived because he was not at the training sessions due to his injury, and everyone was already talking about him, saying that when he returned, the team would improve, and that has been the case.”

Lew-Is on his way

Lewis Holtby revealed he would not be signing a new contract with Schalke 04. The German international was coming to the end of his contract with the Bundesliga outfit and was being linked with several Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal.

In the end Tottenham got the player on a free transfer - and then snapped him up earlier for a nominal fee.
