Norwich captain has no special fear of Rooney

Wayne Rooney

Sebastien Bassong doesn’t believe Manchester United's Wayne Rooney needs special attention.

The Norwich captain will come face-to-face with the England international when Manchester United travel to Carrow Road on Saturday.

Chris Hughton’s men will be looking to shake off three straight league defeats, the latest to relegation rivals Fulham on Boxing Day. Manchester United, on the otherhand, have hit a purple patch with a trio of Premier League victories in the same stretch - all without talisman Robin van Persie, but with an on-fire Wayne Rooney.

Bassong was in the starting eleven as Norwich were thumped 5-1 by Liverpool - in an absolute masterclass from Luis Suarez in early December - yet Bassong maintains that he feels no fear ahead of facing Rooney.

'It is the same as playing against someone else, no different', he said of taking on Rooney ahead of the clash.

'Yes, he (Rooney) is a star player. We all know that. But we have been playing against loads of really good players, so maybe I will watch him a bit more, but that is it', Bassong said.

The Cameroon international will also likely have Chicharito Hernandez to contend with, alongside a combination of Danny Welbeck, Ashley Young or Adnan Januzaj - so he will have plenty to think about apart from Rooney.
