The Guardian has released their prestigious top 100 players of 2013 list, with nine players from the Stamford Bridge making the cut.
Chelsea won the Europa League in 2013 but failed to claim victory in the major tournaments that they will strive for again this season.
With a star-studded squad at Jose Mourinho’s disposal, nine players at the Stamford Bridge outfit have featured in The Guardian’s top 100 players of 2013.
But with so many top players, who was adjudged as Chelsea’s best?
Despite not having as much time on the pitch as he would like this season, Juan Mata is the highest placed Chelsea star in this prestigious list.
The diminutive Spaniard is in 30th place, up from 32nd the year before.
Next up is the man that usually plays ahead of Mata. Oscar is Mourinho’s first-choice number ten, and features in 36th place.
Thibaut Courtois’ development at Atletico Madrid has been recognised, with the Belgian goalkeeper taking 47th place in the list.
Chelsea have a fourth player in the top 50, just, with David Luiz taking out 50th place in the prestigious list.
Chelsea have the fourth most players on the list after Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
