With the January transfer window almost upon us, Manchester United are expected to be one of the busiest teams next month.
With a left-back and creativity in their midfield the priority, there have been plenty of names linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
The latest name thrown into the ring for a potential move to Manchester in January is Adam Lallana, with The Star today reporting that David Moyes will bid £15 million for the midfielder when the window reopens.
Looking at the attributes United need in their squad and Lallana’s abilities, would the Southampton man be a good January signing?
Firstly, whether or not the Saints will be willing to allow their skipper to leave St Mary’s remains to be seen, but if the player wants to move to United then they may have no choice.
The 25-year-old has been one of the stars of Southampton’s excellent 2013, with his creativity, tireless work rate and eye for goal key features in the side’s rejuvenation under Mauricio Pochettino.
Lallana has the versatility to play anywhere across the midfield, but would most likely operate on the right flank for the Premier League champions. Given the options at Moyes’ disposal already, the Southampton man looks like he would offer something different to the likes of Antonio Valencia or Ashley Young.
With United reliant on Wayne Rooney for a spark, Lallana’s presence would certainly take some of the creative workload off his England international team-mate.
The Southampton man likes to cut in field and can receive the ball in space, where he has created countless scoring opportunities and goals for the Saints over the years.
For the player personally, leaving Southampton would be a major decision, but a move to United would surely improve his chances of going to next summer’s World Cup.
