The current Tottenham midfielder has featured in a higher place than the Real Madrid man in The Guardian’s top 100 players of 2013.
Tottenham are a club in transition currently, with new faces replacing outgoing men such as Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.
The Croatian playmaker had a big impact at White Hart Lane before moving to Real Madrid last summer.
Although Spurs have replaced Modric with a number of new central midfielders joining the side since the eastern European schemer’s departure, there is a case to suggest that the north London side miss their former charge.
A lack of creativity and incisiveness has resulted in an under-par goal return for the White Hart Lane side this season.
However, one of the new Spurs signing is being spoken of in company with the best players in the world, with Paulinho recognised in The Guardian’s prestigious top 100 players of 2013 list.
The result is seemingly good news for Tottenham fans, as the 15 experts who compiled the list adjudge Paulinho as having had a better 2013 than Modric.
Paulinho comes in at position 59 in the list of 100 players, while Modric features at 61.
It appears that the former Corinthians man is still adjusting to life in England, and he is certainly a different type of player to Modric. However, there is a case to suggest that he can be just as good and better than the Real Madrid star was at White Hart Lane.
